Gen Tomuro, piano
Pianist Gen Tomuro was born in Tokyo and has lived between San Francisco, Boston, Paris and London. A defining encounter with the legendary French pianist and conductor Philippe Entremont drew him to Paris, where he became Entremont’s sole apprentice.
Tomuro trained at the Walnut Hill School for the Arts and the New England Conservatory Preparatory Division under Wha-Kyung Byun, and later with Colin Stone at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he earned a Master of Arts with Distinction.
Following his concerto debut at Salle Gaveau in Paris, Tomuro has appeared as soloist and chamber musician across Asia, the Americas and Europe, collaborating with orchestras and ensembles including the Orchestre National de Belgique, the Orchestre de Paris, the Palm Beach Symphony Orchestra, the Festival Orchestra of Santo Domingo, and the Casco Phil, Chamber Orchestra of Belgium.
Especially noted for his affinity with French repertoire, Tomuro brings together intellectual curiosity, stylistic refinement and expressive breadth in programmes spanning from the baroque to the present day.
He is also the subject of Quatre Mains, a documentary by Hélène Sevaux on Philippe Entremont and the master-disciple bond, currently travelling to festivals internationally.
